3Way Solutions provided Argentine technology for the signal distribution system at the Youth Olympic Games that took place in October 2018 in Buenos Aires. 3Way was chosen to provide the IP content distribution system generated by the IBC (International Broadcast Centre) and intended to be shown in all the parks. This content had to be played on different devices such as monitors or giant screens.
All in compliance with a very strict scheme of technical and service requirements. The system was composed of encoders and decoders coordinated by an orchestrator. With 13 signals that we encoded in the IBC and about 60 signals in the field that fed 300 decoders with HDMI output in HD. The system allowed the required signals to be routed to each point in the parks, being able to generate playback groups of both live video and pre-recorded Highlights of the competition.
1-input SDI/HDMI encoders distributed throughout the parks were used to contribute to the overall system with the signals generated from each sport.
In IBC, 3 encoders with 8 SDI inputs each were used to encode the emitted signals and distribute them to the 300 decoders distributed throughout all the parks, sports halls and the Olympic village.
Operators at each site could access the centralized system via the web through a centralized interface accessible from any device connected to Wi-Fi.
From there you could select which signal was transmitted to each group of screens in each sector. A strict system of users, groups and passwords made it possible for each operator to control only the screens in their area.
The system allowed, through its Web interface, the possibility of loading video fragments (Highlights) with the featured videos, and through automatic replication they were transmitted to the decoders, in order to then trigger their playback on demand.
The company Viditec SA was in charge of carrying out the configuration and operation of the system. Through a deployment of technicians distributed in all areas, the installation of the encoders and decoders was carried out, as well as the supervision and operation of the screens.
